New to the outside questions

I have lots of questions regarding bouldering outside.

First and foremost, my area (Northern Nevada) is littered with crags and outcroppings that I assume are climb able and potentially fun. That said, very few of those are listed, and of those that are, the rock quality is generally listed as poor to crap. What are the guidelines for determining rock quality? Hold solidity, crumbliness, cleanliness, grip?

Jesse...not trying to be cute, but if you enjoy pulling down on it and the climbing is fun that's the number one consideration. Secondly, due to the low population density in N. Nevada there may not be tons of folks to compete with for problems and even fewer posting up and sharing their favorite areas/problems. For the most part if the rock isn't coming apart in your hands, the movement is fun, and the landings are reasonably flat you've got some good quality bouldering. Everyone seems to be obsessed with Red Rocks, but there is plenty of good quality rock in Nevada. Enjoy and be safe.

That's definitely the guideline I was hoping for. Fun has always been my top priority. Much obliged.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
