Hey I'm new to the Portland area and I'm looking to meet some people who climb/boulder locally. Doesn't seem like the climbing scene is huge out here in Portland but I know there are some people out there who share my passion for climbing and the outdoors!

Go to The Circuit NE, incredible bouldering gym with an even better vibe and an easy place to make friends

Hey Ryan, what type of climbing are you into? I recently moved to Portland as well and always looking for partners for trad, sport, whatever.

Yeah, good luck with that. I made quite a few friends in the 2 years I lived in PDX, but most of them were only interested in bouldering, which seems like a waste of time in the Portland area. But overall I would suggest going to the Circuit to get stronger at bouldering and having somewhat of a social scene.

The best rope climbing gym in the area is the Source in Vancouver, small but amazing route setting and the staff are generally pretty cool, unlike the people, setting and staff at the Portland Rock Gym. I've never been to a gym with such ridiculously un-friendly people and staff, then to top it off the routes are horribly set.

Have fun in PDX though, the climbing in the area is really good, and in the winter the "real" climbers go to Smith rock every weekend.

There is actually a pretty strong climbing community, but it can be a bit hard to break into. Lots of outdoor bouldering with a 1.5 hour drive, and a fair amount of cliffs. Lots of info on the SW WA Mountain Project page, and some on the OR MP page as well.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
