New to Chattanooga

My husband, dog and I are considering relocating to Chattanooga and will be visiting over Christmas break. We’re into climbing/hiking/getting off the beaten path, etc. What should we check out while we’re in town? Besides your favorite crag, what are the best neighborhoods, restaurants, coffee shops and bars? We’re in our early thirties, no kids ‘cept for the pup, can’t afford and don’t care about fancy dinners out or owning a McMansion.
Thanks!

Grew up in Chatty and lived there for the first 16 yrs of my life.

Go to T-wall for climbing in the winter. Suck creek canyon is kind of off the beaten path and has some 1st ascent potential for that kind of climber. Unless you want to be surrounded by rich, snotty assholes don't live on signal mountain. If you're willing to hunt it out, Lookout Mountain has a lot of rock, much of which is undocumented and possibly untouched. Also, don't climb on Signal Mtn so you don't jepordize access as there is currently a town-wide ban on climbing.

If you want to be close to the crag, soddy daisy, lookout mtn, and the base of signal/red bank are good options. Hixson is closer to downtown and can be more affordable, but chattanooga is pretty affordable to begin with. As far as food goes, you have to be more specific. Give me a genre of food and I can give you a few restaurants. For more info, text me (423) 504-7813

Hi Janell,
Chattanooga is a great little town. Check out Lupton City area - its inexpensive, quiet, and pretty centrally located. Northshore is nice but trendy and expensive (IMO). Feel free to PM me when you are in town. I'll be in town for the holidays and would be happy to show you around a bit.

Cheers,
Sharyl
