New Somerville MA gym ?

The FB page is not very forthcoming.

Interesting that they are going to use the name Brooklyn Boulders for a Boston gym. I assume it is related to the actual Brooklyn Boulders location in NY, but you would think they would maybe go with Boston Boulders or something more local. Will be cool to have a bouldering gym in Mass though, looking forward to checking it out.

It is related to the original BKB. Same owners. I don't know how much I should actually say but... big.

I called them the other day. They said 30,000 SQFT (I'm taking that with a grain of salt) and looking to be around Spring 2013.

The size sounds crazy and the date is going to contend with Central's Watertown location too.

I live about 2 minutes away and have been following construction since they started.

Last fall we saw the building permit go up - registered to "Petra Somerville, LLC". Plans are publicly available on the web if you search the llc name - roof was punched out about a month ago to allow for 50 foot walls in the central part. Location is in the old factory next to the rail tracks, pretty big building.

Before the loading entrance was boarded up we saw that a lot of the climbing wall superstructure was up, excluding of course the parts in the yet-to-be-expanded roof. Loading doors have been boarded up since.

I can say they are working HARD. We walked by yesterday (Saturday) and heard ongoing construction at 4 PM - my guess is they are pushing to open in conjunction with Central Rock's Watertown location.
