New Petzel Reverso durability

Anyone having an issue with the new reverso's wearing out and getting sharp edges in ridiculously short amounts of time?

Yea I've definitely seen a decrease in longevity since they lightened up the device. My last reverso wore out quicker than the BD too. Even with this I don't mind. It's not a piece of gear that I expect or want to keep forever. I like that it's a lower profile device when compared to the BD.

I've used mine for less than a year and it definitely needs to be replaced. I was surprised at the quick wear but I guess that's the price you pay for the light weight...

I've had one each of the past three versions. The latest is the best IMO, but still wears quickly and to an alarming sharpness if you let it get to that point.

Ths was my first reverso, always had BD. I liked the lighter weight but I guess that seems to be the price you pay. Wasnt sure if mine was defective or something. Thanks for the insight guys.

On another note, I've been interested to try the Edelrid Micro Jul...it's a similar device but with assisted braking capability and only 1 gram heavier, but made of steel so it should be much more durable.

I read that the micro jul eats into your carabiner since the steel is harder than the aluminum biner and the micro jul is not round at the point where it connects the biner.

I heard you get the least amount of wear on your reverso if you extend it with a shoelace sling and back it up with a garlic knot

Hey Brasky I feel you on the shoelace string extension but I prefer a parmesian knot myself.

the BD guide lasts quite a long time, of course it weights a few grams more ...

the question to ask really is do you 30g savings or so over the fairly bomber guide ...

its the same question as do you really need the 20g savings of those fancy ibeam belay biners over a round stock belay biner ...

if you do you pay for it with lower "durability"

It sometimes amazes me that people are expecting for their gear to last forever. Grams turn to ounces, ounces to pounds, and pounds turn to pain. When I replace my belay device yearly, the longevity of the device isn't important to me.
