New Gore Pro vs. Competitors

So with all these new fabrics coming out in the past year and this spring I am trying to get a grasp on how they all truly compare. I am looking at the Gore Pro Arcteryx Alpha FL as my minimalist shell, but with the lack of its pit zips and my poor previous experiences with Gore Tex breathability, I'm a little hesitant. They say the new Gore Pro is 20-30 percent more breathable, but I don't know how that compares to other "ultra breathable" fabrics such as Event, Dry Q Elite, Neo Shell,Gore Active, and the 2.5 layer fabrics such as Mtn Hardwear's Dry Q Evap and Marmot's Nano Pro. I was wondering if anyone has used the new Gore Pro and these other fabrics and would be able to compare them.
Thanks
Luke

I have no experience with the other fabrics but recently tested and reviewed a Norrona ski jacket made with the latest Gore-Tex Pro fabric...I noticed an increase in breathability compared to the older Gore-Tex fabrics, but no waterproof shell is going to breathe too well. I can't imagine a technical shell without pit zips.

I can't speak to the new Gore-Tex Pro Shell, but the Dry.Q Elite materials works as advertised. I have the original MH Drystein jacket (no pit zips), and I've found it to be highly breathable (you can feel the breeze blow through it and air ciculate if you have baselayers on) and 100% waterproof. I've had no need for pit zips on wet approaches, when ice climbing, or prussiking up a rope in the hot sun.

From all the reading I have done and comparison graphs I have seen of everything before the GTPro, EVent breathes the best. That being said, it was also the least durable.

From what I have heard the new GTPro is more on par with the EVent in terms of breathability, yet still has the durability that GTPro is known for. I guess it boils down to what you are looking for. If you want the most breathable material, I think the EVent is still the way to go, but just plan on replacing it every couple of years. If you want a close second in terms of breathability (don't quote me on this, but I think this is about where the new stuff falls), that you will never have to replace, the GTPro is probably the way to go.

Just my personal 2 cents. I think if I were to upgrade my shell, I would probably go with GTPro, although fit and function of clothing probably matters even more. I really like the way the Rainier Storm Shell from First Ascent looks, and it is neither EVent or GTPro, but it has a lifetime warranty and is rated 20k/20k, so it should be quite breathable and waterproof.

Keep in mind, all these links are speaking about the 'old' GTPro

I really want to see where the 'new' GTPro will fall on the graph that is in the last link.

You need to go on YouTube and search for prolite gear's channel and look at their last few uploads. Pretty refreshing to see a company that sells products be so objective about garment performance knowing that's where every store makes its money.

Great suggestion. The videos are cool, but I noticed the reviews are of old jackets. I'm really interested to see what the data looks like for the new GTPro material.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
