New Down Jacket Leaking Feathers

I recently bought a new Black Diamond down jacket and over the small amount of time I have had this jacket, I have noticed that it is leaking feathers.

I have talked to other owners of down jackets and all of them have said that down jackets tend to lose feathers here and there.

I want to know anyone else's experience with down jackets leaking feathers and if there is anything to help prevent it. People have told me that with time and use, feathers will leak less.

I don't know anything about your specific jacket but I do have a small piece of advice. When a feather starts poking out of the nylon, reach to the inside of the jacket, grab about where the other half of the feather should be and suck it back in instead of pulling it out like I've seen a lot of people do.

I've been doing that already, thought it would prevent bigger holes from forming, if I did pull them out. Thnx

The cheaper the down jacket the more full feathers you will get in the insulation instead of just the cut off soft ends of the feathers. So the shafts will poke through the nylon holding them in. Nothing you can do about it really.

Pulling the feathers out will enhance the fill power (cu. in. per ounce) of the filling that's left. Real down doesn't have the quill and won't poke through.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
