BETA PHOTO: the flake start

Add Photo  Add Comment    Printer View

Description

This is a really good V0. Start on a huge flake that looks like the head of a dog. The flake also continues down right. Find feet and move right hand above head up to a pretty good sloper. Bump right foot up into the flake onto an awesome foot. Bump right hand up and left (crossing over your head) to a good crimp with a killer thumb catch. Pull up and match. Next get high feet and stand up. Super fun!

Location

Same boulder as Jane Gets A Wirebrush V2. This boulder is on your left when walking from the Hero Black to the Valley Boulders. Boulder is slightly off the trail but easily visible. It starts at the lowest point of the boulder. Look for the dog head flake.

Protection

Pad and make sure you cover the large rock behind you. Turn around and jump off when done.

I had some questions about the beta on this one. Do you stay down on the face the whole time, or is it on to climb up on top of the starting handhold/flake and work up the arete that way. I worked up that way and then was able to drop down my let foot to the round divot foothold below the last crimp/topout hold. (pretty much the only foothold on the face)

If you are to stay down on the face the whole time and work the slopers up to the top out, I gotta say this is one mean V0. The slopers are bad, and then there is about a four foot blank spot in between that first sloper and the next hold that offers nothing and is covered with moss/lichen anyway.
