FA's can be scary. Photo by DeAngelo

Another piece of gear from Redrocks past. Several long-time vegas veterans tell me this looks like a Jay Smith piece. Here it is in situ in an overhanging offwidth corner.

A Jay Smith STP chock??? Cool none-the-less.

The real ponder is:
Since you can't remove it from the mounting without damaging it, will the mounting enhance or deter from the resale value/collectability ?

Actually its still there. I rapped off it (of course I did add the blue slingage).

Sorry for the thread drift Karsten...
but hey perhaps keeping it alive with goofy humour will keep it buoyant until you get some good feed back from someone in the know.

In the mean time, I love the drift ;)

Josh...
Alloy of course yuh. But the acronym works.
How about:

SOLUBLE TERRA(not so)FIRMA PROTECTION

By Scott M. Mossman

Messing around in RMNP in winter, climbing 5.7 in rubber snow boots and ski gloves.

Standard Tube Protection, man, I had one of those, heavy!

It's a bitch when you're in the middle of an OW, haven't placed it yet and it gets stuck below you. There you are doing the fish, no pro, and you've got to downclimb that last 3 feet that you burned 2000 calories getting up to free that monster.

Sounds like somebody didn't use the "pull the sling out the end of the tube for racking" trick...

STIMULATING TROUBLESOME(to place) PROTECTION

ps. Scott I just took look at your vintage pic's...
Schweet, some classic shots you have there.
I made me think "I wonder how many people today can see an old pic' displaying orange leg loops and immediately think 'Whillans' " :)

Yeah, some stuff you just have to learn the hard way, especially when you are climbing things that you normally stay away from (OW).

Ha, if the Nose went after the advent of clean climbing, we'd talk about the immortal Tailpipe cracks.

I've hauled a coupl'a those up some routes because they were on the list, but I don't remember placing any.

Well, I really don't care about thread drift but here's some photo's of the route. Andrew Gomoll and I attempted this brutal thing last winter and . . well. . . got brutalized. If the piece is in fact Jay Smith's I feel alot better about not getting up the thing. In any case I think it'll go but probably hasn't gone yet.

A secret OW

Also, don't be fooled by the angle of the first pic. It starts pretty much vertical and then gently overhangs. Notice the trail line in this second pic. Steep!
