Anyone know conditions up at the Needles right now? I'm pretty sure the gate is still closed, however hiking in isn't too bad.

Thanks, Jeff

Typically gate to Needles opens Memorial
day. Voodoo and the Needles are accessible from Needlerock creek area earlier but it's a burly approach. Check weather in Kernville and surrounds for temps. Dome Rock might be doable as well as lower formations out of Kernville

If the lower road is open.... Voodo has some of the best climbing in the needles. The aproach is not that bad, to voodoo, that is.

Jeff please call the FS in Porterville, they have control of the Needles. Kernville FS will not know about the roads......out of their district.

If the lower road is open please let us know, you might wish to climb all the spots just north of Kernville.... now is the time for those.

The Western Divide highway is now open from Kernville up to Ponderosa.

Called the Pondo today, and the gate is still closed on the road out to the trailhead. That will most likely open in the next several weeks.

As of last Friday the fire road to the trailhead is open!

Great conditions, very little snow, and no one there!

Hi Jeff,

Thanks again for the info! Just to double check, are you saying that 21S05 is opened? (My friend called the fire service a week or two ago and they said it was not expected to be opened until Mem day weekend)

Much appreciated

Brian has it correct.

There is still a "road closed" sign on the gate, but it is unlocked and the road is well graded. Please make sure to close the gate behind you.
