Need Help Planning Road Trip

Sup MP,

After college graduation I'm planning on doing some road tripping across the country to do some climbing and exploration. Most of my life has been limited to the East coast and I'd really like to get out and see what this massive country has to offer in both climbing and culture. I'm at the very beginning stages of planning my trip and my hurdle is simply that I don't really know where to go or what path to take.

I was hoping that you fine individuals could give me some recommendations on where to stop and check out. Whether it's a climbing area or just a rad, little town. Also: if you have any car camping tips & tricks you'd like to share I'd definitely appreciate them!

Utah has tons of amazing places as well as climbs. I would check out moab/arches national park. Great desert climbing. I would also try to go to zions national park and climb in and around at.george. Check out this classic wall in zions mountainproject.com/v/namas…

Sweetness! Definitely gonna add it to the list! Any chance you know of a good guidebook to grab for that area?

Yo Andrew, if you are graduating in June, you'll want to hold off on going to the desert for a few months, unless you sincerely enjoy being hot, haha.

There's a lot of killer stuff in Utah though, no doubt you will want to check it out. If you want to stay north and in the cool, head up to Smith Rock in Oregon, The Tetons in WY (check Driggs out on the other side, and the climbing ranch on the east side), Custer and Rushmore area are great climbing too. Wind River Range shouldn't be missed if you're out there for a wilderness adventure.

That's all I'll spew for now, have fun planning the trip!

The weather and season will/should dictate where you climb.

This. also, are you into sport, trad, alpine, bouldering, all the above? this should really help narrow down the places you plan to visit.

I'm into Trad, Sport, & Alpine - can't say I'm much of a boulderer. Thanks for all of the great info being thrown out, I really appreciate this!

I want to spend a lot of time in the Colorado area on my trip - where should I be heading if I'm there for the winter other than Ouray?

Rocky Mtn National Park is an excellent winter spot for alpine climbs, lots of beta out there.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
