Underground climbers? Like, in a cave?

If your looking for climbers, you should try the crag, not MP forums. :)

Oh I am! I'm working on a video to incorporate climbers from all across the country. I'm trying to recruit people to film themselves for a crowd-sourced video of non-professional climbers. I've got plenty of footage from southern california... :-)

Non-pro? As in solo climbing?

You say you're looking for climbers, but what you really want is video of people climbing. Not so much poor word choices, more like lazy.

Are you kidding me? non-professional. I've actually posted multiple times, with varying amounts of description. The longer posts generally don't get read. Thank you for calling me lazy. Forums seem to be a charming place; the added value of your post to this discussion is incalculable.

Too funny! I don't think the trolls on MP are going to let me live this down. You guys are worse than the grammar police, except the criticisms are doubly sarcastic with even less meaning :-P ... Maybe a smidge of critical thinking to be employed will get us past the sarcasm? I'm trying to actually accomplish something here. Anyways, I should've suspected a fair amount of ballbusting from the climbing community...

In which the director reveals himself to be thin-skinned and difficult to work with...

Fair!

If I had thinner skin, maybe I could break past 5.12....

Anyways, Forgive my attempts to re-direct a conversation that hasn't been very fruitful. The only public responses have been sarcastic, but so it goes. The serious one's email. I'll take it as a lesson in responding to sarcasm on a forum. Best option: I shut this thread down, apologize and self-castigate myself before the MP community, no? (that's a joke, incase the snark-asm is a little too thick...)

Anyways, I'm just trying to collect some videos to do something cool. You guys got my email if you want in. It's a cool project so far.

I crush V3 in the gym, for $25 an hour I think i could probably push my limit to V6 outside for you and film it, is GoPro film ok? Do you have a GoPro I can use? Do I really need to be in a cave I'm pretty claustrophobic?

Hey man -- couldn't tell if your response to my video call was sarcastic. I think it was, but on the off chance it wasn't, here's the details:

This isn't a commercially sponsored project or anything like that so there is no money involved in this project. I'm a hobby film-maker and thought it would be fun to get video from climbers all across the country to contribute as an experiment in crowd-sourcing a climbing video. The intention is to celebrate the everyday climber, because there are so many of us out there having fun, doing some cool shit, and it might be nice to get that on a well-edited film. If you're serious and interested let me know via email: daniel.baldor@gmail.com.

Also -- you'd have to film yourself with your own gear. If you have an iPhone, I believe that supports HD. Regular SLR cameras also generally come with a fairly decent video recording setting if you don't have a camera. GoPro is fine.

I was being an asshole sorry about that, project sounds pretty cool. I don't film a lot of climbing but maybe I will sometime here in the next few weeks and get it to you depending on if routes are easy to film/ have a decent angle. Anything in particular?

For another $25\hr I'll hold the GoPro at a 45* angle and make it look like you crush V9. :-$

Is a phone camera ok? Are there any perks to submitting your video?

I tried this once. It only made my problem worse. Its like throwing water on a magnesium fire.

You said you wanted every day climber, so are you looking for people crushing those 5.8's?

I'm hoping to get HD footage, which I believe the iphone supports. A lot of SLR cameras have good video functions as well, and I know a lot of folks are toting GoPros - all great options. Editing grainy cell footage can actually be made to look cool as well. Plenty of options. Shoot me an email and I can send you a longer description of the project?

re: magnesium fire: you made my day!

re: 5.8 -- I'm looking for anything video worthy that showcases what people are out there doing. Some people climb hard, others climb for the views. I think both are cool. Great shots on a big wall, multi-pitch 5.8 are just as inspiring as beasting up a .12. Footage of great body movements on low grade climbs can make great passing scenes in this video as well. I've got quite a bit of footage so far, and the actual video is basically full of awesome visuals, regardless of the level of the climb.

Obviously, I'm looking for people who climb regularly. Not your 'I own a harness and a chalk bag and went outdoors once' climber. A big reason for making this video is to showcase that there are amazing climbs and climbers out there, and that the culture is not entirely premised on attaining the 5.15 dura dura. We just want to hang on a dope climb. Sometimes that means .12 and sometimes that means .8.

Thanks Winston! Whatever you think would be video worthy, but don't concern yourself with the grade of the climb. Flashy stuff is cool, but so aren't smooth climbs in a beautiful setting. If you shoot me an email, I can send you a teaser so you can see what the video shots we have so far look like.

Sweet! I only have some gym videos now...not very good. But we are thinking to buy a small helicopter and mount a Go Pro on it or something like that. Maybe with some editing it will look cool.
Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
