This cluster of boulders is the original bouldering area in Atkins, all along this portion of Big Walker Mountain. The location has a variety of fun problems to choose from. Roadside may not be a destination for distant travelers, but if you live reasonably close you should check this place out. Perfect for Abingdon region residents, Marion locals, or Wytheville folks. Fun slopey holds and tough top-outs on nice, friendly sandstone. These boulders are nestled on the southern facing slope of Big Walker Mtn, so this place is perfect for cool weather trips.

There are six climbable boulders in the area, the first being the lowball warm-up boulder that has a few good problems on it including the fun little "Dial-Zero" V-1.
To the right of the warm-up boulder is the (likewise lowball but steeper) Spring Boulder, which has the area classic "Terrapin Top-out" (V-2+) and many other quality problems including the tricky "Seam Stress" (v-5).
Past this is the large and featured "Buttercup Boulder" which has many variations and tricky problems on the front face such as "Tournament of Champions" (v5).
Beyond the Buttercup Boulder are two very lowball blocks (unless you are a local, these are probably not worth your time): the Above Boulder and the Beyond Boulder.
Across the road where you park, to the left side of the road you can find a small trail. Take the short 50 foot trail down and you will find the hidden Black List Boulder which houses several fun problems and projects.
