I just posted this interview I had with George Hurley, where he shares how he got started climbing and how he has stayed at it for over 50 years. In his 70's and still guiding.

Thanks for the read Don. When I first moved to Colorado in the mid 80s, a buddy and I hooked up with George for a route on the Bastille in the first couple of days. I knew of him from the history books and guidebooks and found it inspiring that a guy that had been climbing for so long was still so psyched to climb that he was willing to hook up with a couple of kids he had just met in the parking lot. It doesn't sound like he has changed much since then. Out of all the bad ass climbers in the world, these guys are my inspiration, guys like George Hurley and Fred Beckey who just climb because it is their life's passion, and they will do so until they pretty much can't walk, and maybe even then some.

In 1956, I was part of a Canadian Youth Hostel Bike trip thru N. Europe -Germany,denmark,
Sweden, Norway, Scotland-- and George was trip leader. I would love to connect with him after all these years. My husband & I now live in Squamish BC, in the Coast Range. We've been active hikers, sea kayakers, XcSkiers in Whistler olympic Park since moving here from eastern Canada in 1990.
