I have been working on a site and wanted to get some Q/A feedback from you guys since you are so good as stomping the hell out of me on here when I say something stupid LOL

My site is AzClimb.com - Yes someone , no names :) has climbaz.com
so I had to work with what I could get

Its experimental and working is constant but some ideas of how you
might utilize this or see if more useful would help in development

the site is geared toward out of towners to come and get the resources necessary to enjoy the outdoor world - whether its climbing, hiking
ect ect
I am planning on referencing local guides too - So its still a work in progress like I say but its on its way

Thanks - And hope to see you this weekend at the Cochise Refuse Roundup

This is timely as I am heading out to Southern AZ next week. I'm doing a few days at Cochise Stronghold, but when I clicked on that link the page was not found?

ClimbPHX.com · · Mesa AZ · Joined Jan 2006 · Points: 1,135

Awesome! Its fixed now - :)

They must have closed the USGS page hosted.. Guess the state ran out of funding LOL - NICE - I have relinked to MP for now...

Cochise is a wonderful place - make sure to get some of the good climbs in

Whats My Line,
Ewephoria and the climbs on the Sheepshead - Absinthe of Malice is great too!
NightStalker on Owl Rock is awesome

If camping in Isle of You area... go al the way back toward the the Trad Rock area and there is a nice campground there with a big tree _ NICE!
The routes they are putting up on the SweetRock are good -
Try Peanut Brittle - one of my favorites!

If you need anything dont hesitate to contact - I can put you in touch with locals that are cool...

Hi Shiloh,

Just a few notes on the site:

1. Thanks for putting it up!

2. That's an awesome pic at the top of Saddle Rocks, Joshua Tree, California?

3. The blue links under featured partners at the left are hard to read. Maybe a different color?

Joe: Try again. I clicked the Cochise Stronghold link worked just fine for me a minute ago.

Thanks again for providing this great resource.

Thanks! Yeh that Saddle Rocks pic isnt AZ but after the free solo of the 2nd and 3rd Pitch of WOWS ... I had to put that up LOL
I will look at the link color and change it ... I have them opening in seperate pages now :)
Like I said - A Constantly evolving process.

I would like to add some local Tucson stuff but dont want to step on any climbaz toes LOL

Do you think the Tucson peeps would let me put links to summit hut and maybe rocks and ropes?

Don't worry about stepping on my toes. In my view, the more information that is available online, the better...

Nice job Shiloh and thanks!

One major flaw in your website Shiloh; You are not up to date with your BEER man! Four Peaks is out of Pumpkin Porter till next fall. False advertisement!

All kidding aside; it looks pretty good. I just suggest more content. I know it is a work in progress, but when you have time to add more content, it will only make your website better.

ClimbPHX.com · · Mesa AZ · Joined Jan 2006 · Points: 1,135

Aaaaw crap! That means I dont get anymore Pumpkin! Damn!
Yeh Content Content Content.. I want to stay away from trying to emulate the work done on Beta - I think MP and RC do a great job ...
Connecting those visitors with the rest of the life... that is my
goal...
Thanks for all the feedback and relish more!

looking further into your website... I noticed that links for some climbing destinations take you to the MP page for that area. But the Lemmon destination link takes you to a weatherunderground webpage and the Ornithology link in the destinations page takes me to a birdwatching website of some sort. I think you need to fix those links some. Hope that helps!

Hey,
Congrats on you're work thus far, I think it's coming along. Starting a website is hard. Below is some constructive criticism, I'm not trying to be mean.

The general format leave something to be desired. I don't think it's "pretty".

The Go Daddy banner at the top is intrusive, and can be avoided. Maybe check out wordpress or blogger for free "blog" hosting.

The links below the header should probably remain constant as you flip through the different pages.

As stated previously, more content is needed. Beta, photos, stories, etc.

The site name would seem to imply it's focus is climbing, but your description says it's for many activities. Have you considered a broader site name like "AZadventure.com" or something?

I wouldn't hold out much hope for generating a lot of revenue with the affiliate stuff, and it takes away from the user experience of the site.

Eli

P.s. Here's my site (also a work in progress)

Thanks for the constructive words -

The ornithology page goes to birdwatching - it is what Ornithology is
and a group I have worked with in the past in Bird Counts ect

The Lemmon link should be changed.. I was just trying to keep from having a site that just relyed on MP - but I am quickly thinking that it should use the Beta and not worry so much...

Eli - thanks for the critique - Your sites cool too! yeh my sites not pretty by any means :(

Also, another small thing... you don't have your domain name spelled right on this page:

azclimb.com/About%20Us.html

It seemed to be central to the message, otherwise I wouldn't have mentioned it.

Some of us down in Tucson have been putting together a site with information on Tucson's bouldering. Check it out at boulderingtucson.com, we'll add a link to your page soon. Keep in mind this is a new project and there's still lots more to add.

Great job by the way.

Yup, no beautiful rock in AZ to post on your AZClimb homepage you've got to reference Joshua Tree for the good stuff??

I have to mention (since you did not) that the photo of the sunset over Saddle Rocks is from our very own MP contibutor Blitzo's Collection.
Saddle Rocks at sunset. Photo by Blitzo.

www.azclimb.com

You can purchase (aka not hijack) his photos by visiting redbubble.com/people/wserni… or by contacting him through the site for photos of interest.

Perhaps I'm overreacting and I will gladly delete this post if it turns out you contacted Blitzo before grabbing his photo for your commericial for profit use. At a minimum, it's poor form to use photographs without credit of the artists name.

End Rant....good luck with your site.

Pictures of CA and UT...there is so much great stuff in AZ, I just dont get it. Then the contact page thats a pretty big screw up. Stealing pictures, wow, that is way unethical. I have a good mind to let your sponsors know, and hope others on here do the same. Links just go to MP.com...I can go there myself. All in all, shitty and useless.
