I've tried to look through previous threads about this, but I guess I don't understand how multiday parking at the West Trapps Trailhead. I've stopped through and paid the $17 to climb before, but if I want to stay for a whole weekend or so and camp at Camp Slime, do I just pay 3*17= $51 right when I enter or do I need to everyday go pay at the little shack that I payed to initially get in at?

It sounds dumb, but any advice would be great. According to the Mohonk Preserve website it opens at sunrise and closes an hour before sunset. That confuses me. How do I park and camp if the place is closed?

At that point just buy the seasons pass. An extra 40 and then you can come back as many times as you want.

Also, camp slime is members only. If I recall corectly.

Hit up the multiple use area, but get there early because it tends to fill up.

You will pay daily if not geting a pass. There is usually a ranger parked near the steel bridge (heading towards the Trapps) to pay subsequent days, and a little pay station beyond that if you are up before the ranger. Day pass users can camp at slime.

Note that the AAC campground says it expects to be open this summer. Slime is supposed to close when that opens, but no idea on the time frame. If slime closes, you will have an additional camping fee over there (and a longer walk in). At that point you likely won't be able to leave your car in the preserve lots over night.

The fee is for climbing, not for parking. You have to pay the money regardless whether you have a car or not.

You can buy the multiple day passes at one time. The trailhead person writes the date on the passes in marker, and will write the corresponding dates.

But - be sure you WILL be staying for the days, because they cannot issue a refund. Sometimes people buy for both weekend days or whatever, and then the weather turns so they don't stay)

The annual membership is nice, and is currently $90 for one climber(you can get discount on membership when combining for additional members in same household, regardless of relationship to primary cardholder). as mentioned, if you come more than five days in a year, the membership is the way to go.

Camp Slime is for members AND those with day passes, and is intended for climbers, but not enforced as to what activity you are there for.

People camping at Slime can leave their car in the West Trapps parking lot overnight. I think there is a little paper you can pick up near the entrance of the camping area, write your site #down and put the stub in your car, but this is not something that is enforced.

The new campground is expected to be open in 2014, but it doesn't look like it will be ready in spring. There's still quite a lot of construction going on, and none of the buildings(bathrooms/showers, cooking place, manager house) are up yet. I am guessing more like early summer(but I could be wrong, and don't have any official update).

Hope that answers your questions.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
