This just something I've thought about from time to time. Does MP.com have a published backup policy? I looked around briefly but didn't find anything.

Considering that the content on the site is generated by the community, I think we all have a stake in ensuring that it is being properly backed up in case of data loss. Also over the years the site has become an insanely valuable and rich repository of information and history. It would be a real tragedy if it were to be lost.

So, I (and I assume others) would be interested in knowing how the database is managed and safeguarded from loss.

Our servers are hosted by Amazon EC2. We take daily snapshots and store them on Amazon S3 for some period of time.

Thanks Nick, that's good to know.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
