Mountain Equipment Shells

I've heard good things about Mountain Equipment clothing, looking into getting one of their shells for winter hiking/climbing/snowboarding. Any thoughts on their sizing? I'm 6'2 and around 180, broad-ish shoulders/chest but a thin waist and I HATE bulky shells, my current Arcteryx in a large gets all bunched up with a pack on.

Concerned a medium may be too short, any experience/recommendation would be much appreciated.

Not sure what dead bird shell you have, but have you tried on an Alpha FL? Very trim fit on that guy, but by no means restricting.

Haven't tried that one, thanks for the tip.. I have a Theta AR which is a bomb shelter and was fine for snowboarding without a pack but the large just has too much room in the body for me, probably should have gone medium.

if you're tall and thin, I recommend a ME Kongur. It's a long cut by design, but the belly area won't be too big. I've had mine for years.

I was going to pick up a ME Firefox back when I was looking for a new shell, but ended up getting a hand-me-down.

6'1", 170 mesomorph build. Medium fits great with a lil room to spare

If you buy a new shell, I recommend one of Mountain Equipment's Polartec NeoShell's. I can't speak for Mountain Equipment, but I have a Westcomb NeoShell & I can really feel the extra breathability vs any Gore-Tex product I've ever worn. Just thought I'd throw that in the mix.

Mountain equipment make great stuff I have a few of their products though would rather a Arc'teryx shell over a mountain equipment shell (mountain equipment make great fleeces). Arc'teryx have a slightly better cut, lower weight, more refined features and better fabrics the dead bird comes in slightly more expensive but not by much.
