Twenty-five climbers set out for the summit of K2 on July 20, 2007. Eighteen would reach the summit. Two would die. Leading an international expedition, and filming it for NBC TV, Chris Warner captured the mountain—in all its brutality. Now he is bringing his Emmy-nominated footage, and tales of heroism, narcissism, and cowardice, to the Boulder community.
Regarding the footage: we shot 44 hours worth for NBC. This clip came from the expedition website. It was edited in base camp. The NBC show used some of this exact footage, but pieces the story together from the best of the footage we shot, trying to appeal to a non-climbing, TV audience.
In the presentation, I use both photos and video to tell the story. As you can imagine, it is hard to shoot video when the worst stuff is happening. But we still did get some crazy stuff on film.
You used to be able to find the TV show on line, but it seems to have been taken off the web. Now that Comcast owns NBC, the show occasionally airs on Versus. It was shown quite often during the Tour de France last summer.
I am looking forward to sharing the story with a climbing audience.
