Description
This ice no longer forms.
It is surprising to find a place with such high quality ice climbing in Midwest. The two main ice pillars, when in, would be considered great in Ourey's Ice Park.
The ice falls are formed by excess water draining from the heating system in a private property atop the cliff. With the owners permission, climbers added fixed pipes, which in a very good season, help in forming of three awesome ~150 ft icefalls/pillars. Additional mixed and drytooling routes also exist.
Getting There
From St. Paul, get on MN-36 E towards Stillwater. In downtown Stillwater turn right into E Chestnut St/MN-36, crossing into Wisconsin over the bridge across St Croix River. Continue on WI-64 E for about 2 miles and turn left onto Anderson Scout Camp Rd. At the boulder turn left into Twin Springs Rd. Follow it to the end. When parking ensure the gate or the driveways are not blocked. Maintain low profile and be respectful to local residents.
From the gate, drop down to St. Croix River, turn right and continue along the cliff (the river has to be frozen) until you see the ice falls on the right. Ascent grade 2 slope to the base of the cliff.
