Minnesota Strip Left

Description

The Minnesota strip is probably one of the most popular climbing destinations at Taylor's Falls if not in all of Minnesota, and rightly so. It contains a high concentration of high quality routes ranging in difficulty from 5.5 to 5.11. It is probably the highest cliff lines at Taylor's Falls, with routes ranging from 70-90 feet. The majority of the routes here are leadable using traditional protection.

Getting There

From the parking lot/visitor's center (the park entrance nearest town) walk down the paved road toward the boat dock. As this road deadends at the river boat take a right down a hiking trail. Walk about 20 yards to the base of the Minnesota strip.

Top Rope Approach/Descent: Two approachs exist. The first is to the climber's right up a trail that leads to the old parking lot on Highway 8. Walk past the old parking lot to the left scrambling over several large boulders to the top of the climbs. The second approach is on the climber's left. Scramble to the base of Number 6 a.k.a. The Bulge and continue to the climber's left. A third class gully leads to the top.

In my humble opinion one of the best routes at Taylor's. The combination of vertical and horizontal cracks makes for both jams and face holds. This route protects very well throughout its course, taking stoppers especially well. Start in the middle of the rock and follow the line to the top. The moves switch from fingers to hands towards the top. Also a fun aid route if you can hit it on an off day....[more]   Browse More Classics in MN
