| Hey what's up.
A friend and I are thinking of heading up to the dells this weekend to scope the possibility of DWS along the Wisconsin River, anyone have any beta on this?

| From my knowledge, either the rock is really bad or it is illegal to climb on the rock. Or both. | |

| From the couple places I've seen canoeing around in southern WI so far, the rock is bad (beautiful but choss) and/or the water is shallow. I don't think SWS (shallow water soloing) has quite the same appeal. If you find some DWS, post up (if legal). | |

| I recently saw a guy on TV who did a high dive into a shallow pool that was only a couple of feet deep. Perhaps SWS's will be the thing of the future. Picture soloing Crumbling Reality above a kids inflatable pool. | |

| You won't be able to SWS or DWS but go during a very cold winter if and when the river freezes solid and tell us if you find any vertical ice formation. I have looked at a fair share of the rock along here from a canoe and was not impressed or was highly impressed depending on your frame of mind?? I have always thought that "Louie Bluff" would be a possible spot to farm ice-- weird as this thought might seem??? | |

But I'm sure you could find a spot of good quality and little people. I would start looking here, http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&ie=UTF8&ll=43.674204,-89.7>>>>> Let us know if you find anything worth while.
Hey John! It's Zack, we gotta climb together soon, nice list of FAs! And yeah dude Google Topo is the bomb. Peace!

| The only spots to DWS on rock of decent quality has been at Taylor's Falls, but I'm pretty sure that its illegal. The majority of rock in Southern Wisconsin is crap, with the exception of Grandad's bluff in La Crosse. I went to school in La Crosse and we spent quite a bit of time looking for places to DWS and didnt find anything. But good luck! | |

You must have never been to Gibraltor or Hillbilly Hollow or Necedah, or perhaps Gov. Dodge. Just to name a few quality Crags besides Devil's Lake.
There is plenty of good quality rock in SE WI.

| I wasn't referring to the established climbing areas in WI; this is a thread about DWS. I've heard of all of those areas, and been to quite a few.
I was speaking more about the rock that is near the waterways. For example, there is great potential for DWS on the Kickapoo river near La Farge, but the rock is all crap. Same for the stuff on the Wisconsin River near the Dells.

| I see. Yeah, most of the rock near any waterway is soft and falling apart. But I do know there are some hidden gems to be found. | |
