BETA PHOTO: Leading the trade route (5.8)

Description

bring the bug spray (as with any U.P. outdoor activities) - otherwise nice shade and protected from wind. short approach but quiet and away from the road noise. The land is owned by the ski hill - they allow climbing but no camping on the property.

Granite, about 80' - seems to be predominately top-roped with some bouldering, we found opportunity for trad lines
Trail around the left of the rock face leads up to set up top ropes - supposed to be good trees, etc to set up anchors, but possibly a distance from the rock edge so you may need longer pieces of webbing (based on hearsay)

Getting There

County Rd 553 south-southwest'ish from Marquette (can get onto 553 from US41 or we took McClellan south from US41/M28). Drive past the ski hill around the corner. There will be a round-dome shaped house on the left (east) side of the rd kinda tucked in the trees and a radio tower - turn left onto the dirt road immediately after the round house - park by the tower maintenance building or the next little parking area - obvious trail northeast off the 2nd parking area. - 5 min hike to base of rock

Pretty much is good for all rates. Denise and I did a crack with a roof on a trad lead. Rock is solid but weeps with water in spots. Not much for giving beta on this one due to the fact we had no time to actually beta the route ourselves. But contact the local climbing shop and talk to them...bigtime help there.
Rock varies from 30ft to 100 ft of climbing with variations of slab, crack, roof, aretes I'd say. I would go back and do it again on the next trip out.
