so ive been looking around for some time now for a pair of nice climbing capri's. something rugged to keep my knees in decant condition but something really loose and flowy for those high steps. anyone with any idea's would be great. even home made clothing.

If you take a pair of double knee Carhartts (the logger pants) and cut the legs off right at the bottom of the outer (double) front panel, they should be about capri length. The same goes for those Dickies brand pants with the double knees. I've also taken some of the thicker, baggier sweat pants and cut them to capri length, with OK results.

It's expensive, but I really like the Prana stuff. So what if my non-climber friends make fun of my manpris? They do help the knee situation... now for the ankles... Flashdance leg-warmers maybe?

I have been looking for a good pair of manpri's for a long time now. I have often been tempted to purchase chicpri's, but haven't gotten the courage.

I have a friend with a really nice prana pair but I think they set him back like $70. Maybe just get a pair of pants and cut the bottom's off of those suckers. I found some good pants made by Columbia for $24, now that I think about it, I might chop them. I always end up rolling them up anyways...

Good luck!

You need manpris for hi stepping? Really? No, admit it. You just like the way you look in them.

And hey, yeah, you guys do look kinda good in them. Now just get up in them woods.

Ditto. Great capri and light weight pants that are fabulous. If you're near the RRG, be sure to get the on sale Pranas at Miguels. He always has something reduced there.

I can't speak to their long term durability, but I just picked up a pair of these OR "softshell" pants. They have survived one "squeeze chimney" pitch with no apparent abrasion though. They are super lightweight (read "cool") and uber stretchy for high-steppin. Of course they aren't really all that cheap, but they pack really nicely if you want something for alpine rock in the summer or whatever.

You could always go with the new Verve Hot Cheek shorts for guys and a pair of knee pads... though that may be taken the wrong way.

On a constructive note, if you're looking for a good pair of pants that aren't constrictive for climbing. Mountain Hardware makes some good canvas pants.

Search sierra trading post for mountain hardwear, prana, lowe, etc and you'll find some climbing pants or 3/4's etc. Search around and you'll find 20-30% off coupons too.
I got a pair of prana "shorts" off 6pm.com for half off and some stretch jeans, but the jeans look too nice to climb in for a while. The prana shorts are like a looser capri or if I add some knee high white socks they'd be cholo style for sure. Also royal robbins nox jeans work quite well for mild temp days or cooler. They breathe well.

Just last weekend some friends of mine decided that Man Capris had been out of fashion long enough that it is now safe to wear them retro/ironically. Kind of like bell-bottoms by 1998.

It may take a while for your friends to stop giving u heat but I found a pair of prana ones at TJMaxx...same thing as Marshalls...for $12. my only regret was not buying the three they had...really durable but extremely light weight, built in snapbuckle belt, velcro fly, and mesh pockets. Keeps me cool in summer. Finally my buddies have started asking where they could get a pair....just buy a pair of manpri's and rock them.

Asking for Manpris on a public forum... brave. Cant you just roll up your pants like most climbers? Carhartts rolled up are durable and still let me move... and I don't look like a yoga yuppie... That said if you really want manpris, they were all the rage in europe last summer. You may not need to go with climbing specific ones... unless you really want to run an add for prana or others.
