Description
This is a huge area with varying degrees of boulders! There is some major room for development in this area! Please come out here and traffic some of the boulders! Some rock is super strong such as Petrified Hill at Opal Hill and doesn't need as much trafficking. But the problems at Hilltop and Kodel's are on softer Dakota sandstone and require much more traffic. This area has potential to become Fruita's Dynamite Shacks/Bullet Hole!
Opal Hill: mix of conglomerate and Dakota sandstone. Varying quality and personally I believe much more climbable rock than other areas initially.
Hilltop Bouldering: rock quality is subpar (no hesitations on that, straight truth) and of Dakota sandstone. Needs plenty of runs on to become cleaned up. Requires more of an adventurous climber and willing to do some FA's.
Kodel's: rock quality is also subpar but I believe much better than at Hilltop. Still needs plenty of traffic and require a hike out there.
Most of these boulders require a hike in a ways and up a hill. Be careful of land use, don't walk around on precious protected area of grounds. Try to stick to drainage areas or already designated footpaths.
