I'm looking to get a zero degree down sleeping bag that wont break the bank for me. I saw the Marmot Never Summer bag. Out thing year Marmot has a MemBrain Never Summer bag (same 0 degree rating). I was wondering if it was worth the extra hundred bucks it would set me back to get the membrain technology.

I've had a Never Summer for probably 8 yrs and LOVE it! The membrain would be nice but have had no problems with the regular shell. I own an OR bivy that I use if I think there is a serious chance of the bag getting wet. Quality, affordable bag...

I bought a Marmot zero degree bag with the Dry Loft fabric about 16 years ago. It was the best gear purchase I have ever made. That thing still looks and feels like new. Its one puffy bastard. I don't know anything about this new fabric but I know Marmot and I think you will be very happy with it. Alan-

Don't do the membrane! I had a MHW 0deg with the conduit membrane and it just added weight. When would you use it? You still have to be under something for water or snow to not get in the hood. It does not double as a true bivy bag. Also the bag wont breath as well and you can get condensation in the bag if you use it on an extended trip... also b/c it doesn't breath as well it it a Pain in the A$$ to stuff. You basically have to pull the bag inside out every time to stuff it. I regretted buying my old one for years till I sold it. What did I replace it with you ask? Marmot zero deg! Great bags. I guess you have to ask what you will use it for, but if you plan on backpacking or staying in it often, id go w/o the membrane. Standard shells are pretty water resistant and you could always keep it that way by using TXdirect or revivex. Hope this helps.

I have The Never Summer bag and use it in the Winter on those long climbs, I have never been cold. I Love it.

I personally wouldn't own a bag I intended for winter use that didn't have MemBrain or an equivalent. I can't count all the mornings I've spend in a frost coated tent that melted and dripped on my sleeping bag. In my MemBrain bag it wasn't a problem but has been a problem for tent mates who don't have it. If you don't plan on ever encountering this situation maybe MemBrain isn't worth it. As far as it's reduced breathablity being a problem on extended trips I spend 65+ days last year in the Khumbu in a Marmot Cwm with MemBrain without a problem. Just my experience. Your's may differ.

How waterproof is the MemBrain layer? I have Marmot pro-deal, but I'm considering getting a MH synthetic ultralamina instead because I don't trust a down bag in wet conditions.

I luv mine!! I almost don't even need to zip it all the way. I've woke up sweating.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
