I don't know what the exact injuries were that caused his death, maybe massive internal trauma or a broken neck, where a helmet would have been irrelevant. I do think that wearing a helmet(especially on lead) is a pretty good idea. It only takes one wierd fall or freak occurance to bump your melon and check out. I'm surprised that a youth climbing club wouldn't require the kids to wear one.
I am aware of more than one occurance where someone has decked from 25 meters and survived(maybe they flunked high school physics)
