To the lady with the psychotic dog (POODLE!) asking multiple times how long we would be at Rapunzel wall since we had a well behaved large Akita with us. we are no longer on the route and I suggest you get a clue. Also, if you see me in the gym, yes I am ignoring you.

I arrived at the local crag several weeks ago and started talking to a friend that I hadn't seen in several years. The woman next to us had a dog with her that was whining and barking at me loudly. After about 20 seconds of this the woman came up to me and told me (with a straight face) that everything would be ok as long as I got down on the ground and begged to the dog. After recovering from the shock I told her that I was more inclined to leave than to beg to her dog.

Overreaction? Out-of-control dog/dog owner?
come people of MP. pass judgement.

Dude! Whats wrong with you?!

Whose fault would it that a dog is loudly barking at you besides yours?

Hahah hah...
Well, tell her that you will do it, but it's going to cost you some humility, which should be OK, provided she immediately get down on the ground and beg for you...
I like stupid/clueless people in small doses, they make me laugh. I'm usually over it pretty quickly and get into FU territory though, which makes it not worth while.

There is only one correct thing to do, bow to your master!

Isn't that an oxymoron?

Kidding.

Seriously though, as far as I'm concerned, unless your dog is 100% (and I mean 100%) capable of laying down next to your stuff and not moving, then as soon as there are multiple dogs at the crag, its time to tie up Fido. Multiple dogs running around quickly turns into a circus and is not acceptable. Perhaps next time you should both tie your dogs up and this will avoid the problem.

...and yes, I AM a dog person, so my opinion is most certainly not shaped by not enjoying the presence of dogs at the crag.

Next time unleash the Akita. Please get a video and post the youtube link here. Problem solved. Should be a short video.

How about leashed, as was the Akita?

Simply awesome.

I'd take it one step further than J.A. and say that if your dog can't sit quietly next to your stuff for the whole day... LEAVE IT AT HOME!

If you want to walk your dog, then go walk your dog. If you want to go climbing then go climbing.

And yes I like dogs, and have owned 7.

Well, I guess then you politely tell the lady to quit bugging you already. If your dog is leashed and her dog can't deal with being near another dog, well then, I guess she is going to have a long day of waiting. By the third time she bugged me, my polite-o-meter would have red lined and I would have told her to SFTU.

I liked a story that I believe Pat Wilde told me, but maybe it was someone else... he had a pal with a big Akita. Some little fluffy thing was tugging at its leash and visciously barking at it. The owner of the little fur-ball asked: "Is this going to be a problem?" He shrugged non-chalantly and answered: "Well, No. Not for Sugar(his dog)."

I was at the crag the other day, and I heard a guy talking, and he was saying that he had a friend who saw someone deck because his partner was using a GriGri. And he said that if he was using an ATC, that he totally wouldn't have decked! I think GriGris are dangerous.

Whether you rack gates-in or gates-out, and which one is definitively wrong; the answer of which is obvious.

I think he was trying to say that the climbing partner must have been a poodle, and poodles belaying with a grigri are obviously dangerous. They must prefer an atc.

You should have lifted your leg and marked your territory! Or bite the dog on the ear.
I have 2 dogs. 1 Huskey, 1 Akita. I leave them home when I climb. I think the issue becomes and I understand is that to many people dogs are like their children. But please understand I don't want to hear your dog barking either. Course I have been at crags where a few people were as annoying as dogs.
