Description
Scattered along the Mammoth Creek Road south of the town of Mammoth Lakes are a number of boulders (granite and volcanic) which are worth visiting. Arguably the best is the Aspen Boulder, which conveniently is also the easiest to get to and the most obvious from the road.
This area is hot in the summer, but is climbable all year round, so plan accordingly.
The views south from all the boulders are spectacular, especially in the fall when the aspen trees along the creek break out into their colorful fall glory.

Getting There
It is possible to walk to these boulders from town along the trail system, but they are easiest to reach by car.
From the town head west along Old Mammoth Road. About 1/2 mile after the Vons shopping area turn left down Mammoth Creak Road. After a short distance a parking area is reached for those wanting to use the trail system. Continue on through the parking area and head down the road. The boulders are located on the hillside up to your left as you drive along the road.
One large solitary boulder can be found south of the road, but the walk isn't worth the disappointing problems to be found on it.
