Description

This crag seems to be less popular than the other areas, but it still has some really fun routes. There are mostly moderate slab climbs, with some cracks spread throughout. Some of the routes are rather long (bring a 60m) and you will have to belay from the top and then hike/rap down.

There are several trees fixed with webbing and rings for trees, but at Old Rag it's always prudent to bring some extra webbing and rings, or just top out and hike down.

Getting There

This is the only area that is easier to approach from the main parking area.

From the Main Parking Lot: Hike up the Ridge Trail until the trail crosses a very large slab covered by large boulders. Looking East, or left, the large slabs below are the LRTS. The LRTS are before the cave/tunnel that you have to crouch through.

From Berry Hollow Parking Lot: Hike up the trail, passing the summit. You will end up hiking down a fair bit of the rock scramble. After passing down the staircase and through the tunnel, you should be able to see the imposing slabs almost straight ahead from the trail.

I'm posting a picture from above the slabs, after the tunnel on your way to the summit for help in referencing the slabs.

Please be very careful when walking down the faint climbers trail! Old Rag already sees a rather high level of traffic, so please tread lightly when hiking down through the vegetation and at the bottom of the cliff.
