Description
Nice secluded area along the lake that has great views and lots of shade on a hot day. This land locked area stays dry even when the water is up in the lake. If you make the journey, you are treated to a beautiful quiet section of Summersville that seems a world away from the busy party going on at Whippoorwill and Orange Oswald most days. The most distinctive and recognizable feature of the area is the impressive arête that can be seen easily on approach. The 5.7 sport route Got it Licked follows this massive arête and you can often see turkey vultures standing sentry at the top. This area has sport and trad routes to entertain and challenge almost everyone.
Getting There
Downstream from Whippoorwill past Mormon Wall. Look for the small peninsula of rocks and boulders that juts out into the lake. Additionally, look the very distinctive arête that is easily visible above the peninsula. There is a small cove upstream which provides the easiest access to the area. You can recognize this cove by the dead trees sticking up like pylons and a giant pyramid boulder. Alternately you can access the southern end (downstream) of the area by the larger cove downstream of the peninsula. This cove is larger, but contains a lot of down timber and a few discarded tires.
