Description

There are two ice columns that form on the northwest bank from the top of the cliff down to the flowing river. These offer a good half day addition to ice climbing at Stephen's Falls.

Getting There

Along Wisconsin 133 in the town of Avoca, WI. Take 151 West through Dodgeville, WI. Onto Hwy 18, right onto HWY 23 past Gov. Dodge SP, then take a left onto 130, going west, and once you've sighted the Wisconsin River (it's on your right) continue straight onto 133 and park at the wide shoulder along the right side of the road. About 20 min. total from Gov. Dodge SP.

First Tube WI4 PG13  WI : Lone Rock
This climb is nearly vertical. It's a fat, blue column and usually forms pretty good ice. After a warm spell the ice will be flaky. It's very straightforward. Portions of the lower section can be hollow. Climb vertical ice for about 40 feet and then it eases towards the top. ...[more]   Browse More Classics in WI
