Has anyone been up to lone peak recently? What is the status of water for camping?
Thanks much,
Tom

I was up there the weekend before the 4th and there was quite a bit of snow up at the cirque. The camp spots next to the small stream about an hour from the cirque (if you go via jacobs ladder) were bairly running. wouldn't be suprised if it's dried up now but there should be a desent amount of snow in the cirque still. steven sadler

The route in it's entirety.
There's still a drift on the lookers left side of the cirque talus field just below the 3rd class ledge under the summit wall. Should be about another week or two left of snow. Greg G

Like Greg said, there is still snow on the left side of the cirque. It wasn't flowing while we were there on Wednesday, but we left at 5pm. Maybe it doesn't start flowing till later? I don't really know. There was also water in the creek about 20 minutes past the camping area if you go the Jacobs Ladder route, which is probably 40 minutes away from the Lone Peak cirque. Here's an update for those interested. As of last night there was still a large drift of snow in the NE corner of the cirque. Easily another two weeks of melting left. It wasn't running per say, but if you walk up to it you'll find several rivulets of water flowing out from under it. They disappear within 15ft. of the toe of the drift. A little dam work and you can easily dip a cup into it to fill another container, or get your filter hose submerged.

Also, the water 20mins down drainage from the cirque proper, is still flowing. Hope this info helps someone. We were uncertain of the latest info and carried in eight quarts each unneciecssarily.

As a bonus (just got back from there today) the spring at the mouth of the cirque has water that has a refreshing mint taste! We filtered water from the snow that was melting in the cirque. Agree with mmcfarland. wasatch-mtn-man

I'm curious what the present situation is with water. Thinking about spending a couple days in the cirque August 9-12 or so. Thanks. Brandon Gottung

There will most likely be zero snow in the cirque by then. The best bet is to hope it rains and that the small pools below will be full for you to use. Greg G

Brandon-I was up two days ago and there is still pooling water that is at a trickle below the final boulderfield before the cirque that we gathered our water from, and the snowfield in the nw corner of the cirque was still producing runoff, although it's getting verry small.
