enjoying the view
Any thoughts on living down in the Cortez/Dolores area? Any good local crags or gyms? Much in the way of a climbing community in the area without going all the way to Durango? David Taft

from experience:
Cortez = don't; Abbey had it right about being a ass-backward cow town
Dolores/ Mancos = much, much better.
some bouldering around dolores; not much at all in the vicinity of Cortez - a few routes in town but all are not very good. Durango is your best bet-- or telluride, but it looks like you are from there. i haven't lived there i awhile, but when i did, the climbing community was not very active or big. many more boaters and skiers. We usually travelled to get any decent rock.

There's a gym in Durango (The Rock Lounge), there's bouldering/crack climbing in the valley of the ancients. The Creek is 1-2 hours away. The black is probably 5ish hrs away. There is tons of cragging and bouldering in/around Durango. Sam Feuerborn
