BETA PHOTO: Tom E. standing below the arete of Little Drummer ...

Description

I think this is the best line in the Sandias for the grade. A tall beautiful arete on great holds. See route description on topo.

Beautiful, tall blunt arete with a steep start and a slightly overhung finish. The top out is easier and high but not a total gimmie.

SDS from a squat position on the right side of the low steep arete. Some long moves back and forth between the aretes take you to a good hold out left. From here there are at least 3 ways to get to the obvious good crimp about 5 feet higher just above the scoop. Once on the crimp a few moves up and right or straight up lead to the top, thin or no feet.

Recommend 2 pads, one to flatten out the landing area and one to throw over the top of the lower one and the rock that will be next to it.

By claude.

Props to Tom for establishing perhaps THE best line in the foothills (regardless of the grade) to date that I've seen. Nice work!
