What is the lightest weight rappel device out there? I've been using a ATC guide, which is great, but I'm getting a grigri 2 for cragging. Carrying an ATC ain't all that bad, but is there anything super light to do a double rope rappel?
Related; I also rope solo a lot and am tweaking my set up to reduce overall weight for longer routes/longer approaches. One variation I'm toying with is tagging a line so when I rappel every pitch to clean I don't have to rappel on my main line (reduce wear and tear). What is the smallest diameter rope you would safely do a single rope rappel on and what device would you use? I know the ATC is 7.7mm for double (single too?). I think 8.4mm was the thinnest single I've done and it was fine. (my other variation I'm thinking of will involve a super thin tag that will only be used to pull down my full length single rope rappel set up for retreats and non walk off descents, but obviously that will put all the wear on my good rope).

Methinks you are babying your rope too much. Rappelling on a rope puts little wear on it.
