lets talk about the great deals on craigslist!!
how bout a thread that highlights all the fantastic deals waiting for the unwary climber on craigslist(sarcasm). here's an add that will allow you to buy 35 year old rigid stem cams for the low low price of just 40 dollars each: |
I think it's OK to ask whatever price they want - even if it's extremely overpriced for old gear. |
sure it's ok. this is America, but it's also ok for me express my feelings that the prices are ridiculous. |
This guy only wants $150 for this totally unidentified Petzl rope. But he swears it was never use and "stored properly," apparently along with his Dewalt tools. I also loved this recent post, which offered, without elaboration or explanation, "Climbing Gear." |
About a two months ago I scored a set of Camalots .5-3, the versions before the c4's came out for a whopping $100. The guy I bought them from claimed to have only used them 3 times. This was the first time I had even looked for gear on craigslist now I check it daily but am beginning to think it was beginners luck. |

mountainproject.com/v/fs-a-… makes me wonder if this ever sold.

Here we go $1200 for around $350 worth of cams, tricams, stoppers, hexes and carabiners, and a bunch of webbing and cord which should probably be trashed judging by the age of all the other gear. |

If I tied all of those, I'd want $800 for my efforts also. |

george.......nice thread, but I think you've gotten a bit jaded. I'm sure all that "vintage" gear was well treated and in fine working order. Enjoy your investment...safely. |
i'm not jaded. I do occasionally find a good deal on CL, that's why I keep looking. but you generally have to wade through hundreds of adds like the ones above. many are just plain funny, like a recent one that called pitons "rock sticks" but sometimes I can't help but think the seller is just looking for someone to rip off, like the ones I posted above. |
I love when people sell a lot of climbing gear. And then they throw in their harness, chalk bag, and shoes. And it all adds together for some ridiculous price. I don't know if they have some exorbitant number in their head for the other gear and the said items are freebies, but who wants that junk. |
