Just wondering how the current wild fires in the Leavenworth/Wenatchee area are affecting the climbing. Is the air breathable? Is there even access? A few friends and I are looking to go in 2 weeks, but a little concerned given the headlines.
Attempted to go to Leavy this weekend but it was COMPLETELY smoked out. It seemed ok at first, but everyone in the group started blowing black snot and were getting headaches. We ended up bouldering in Gold Bar with a bunch of other people who had left Leavenworth due to the smoke.
I was in Leavenworth 9/19-21. Icicle Creek and Alpine Lakes Wilderness areas were very smokey. Prusik Peak and the the Core Enchantments were more acceptable. The smoke seemed worse during the heat of the day and it cleared at night. Hiking was hampered and views were hazy.
I would expect to see little change if it does not rain in Leavenworth.
I was in icicle this weekend, and it wasn't that bad. I definitely had some black boogers, but the temperature was great. The amount of smoke came and went depending on the wind. As long as it's not raining, I'd probably go to Squamish, but like someone else said, Tumwater was way clearer.
