That's got to be one of the best videos I've seen. What were they thinking?

I've heard that there is a head-first method of rapping, used in Australia, but I don't think that means face-first into the rock!

Looks like that guy was wearing a military unfirom of some sort! Or he just want to act like a commando or so?

I see his problem - he's trying Australian Rappelling in the northern hemisphere.

Of course it doesn't work as you need to be 'down under' for the gravity to have the correct effect.

Seen a couple of thee Australian face rappelling in person, both in the D.C. area.

First guy was trying to eat an apple while rappelling to impress his friends. He got about 10' down when he tripped, apple went flying out of one hand and the rope out of the other. Flew out of control another 10' before hitting a small ledge about 30' from the base, heard a loud 'umph', lucky he stopped there.

Other guy was doing pretty well till about 10' from the base when he tripped, smacked head first into the wall, then slumped to the base. Must have broken his nose because there was a prominent blood stain on the rock for weeks. Potomac Rescue littered him to an ambulance, after seeing Potomac Rescue in action I'm not sure which caused the guy more pain, the rappel or the rescue.

For some strange reason only douchebags seem to be attracted to the "sport" of rappelling. Doubly so for the Aussie method! Ha, ha, ha, .....

Thanks for that, I am so inspired, what exactly is this sport called, and do I need any specialized gear. Will my standard climbing equipment work for this sport?

Does anyone have any beta for a good site to practice this sport.
And more importantly where can I get good instruction for setting up these systems properly?

Looking for partners to experiment!

Is this related to the so-called "sport rappeling" listed on the Garden of the Gods climbing permit/waiver? Saw it on there a couple of days ago, and wondered what it was, and what kind of people would be dumb enough to do it. Guess my question is answered....

Is it listed as a banned activity? I haven't read my permit in a while or the waiver.

No. It's listed with the allowed activities, as long as you have the permit. It is banned, along with any activity off of the ground, if you don't have a permit.
Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
