Description Suggest change

Climbing at Du Rocher is not as attractive as Shawbridge or Vache Noire but by its orientation, it will always offer you well hydrated and thick ice all the way to april.

You will find interesting lines in the WI3+ to WI4+ range and a potential for a few moderate to harder mixed routes as well.

The main cascade usually offers a steeper start (15m) that eases off through low angle snow/crust then approx.15 more meters of easy ice (WI3) giving +\- 40 meters total.

Always worth the visit especially if you want to avoid crowds and sun baked ice!!!

Approach:

From cul-de-sac (u-turn), take the wide trail that goes to the right. This is the access for many residents and cottage folks, be respectful since they allow us to use this path.

Walk +\- 250m and carefully watch for an orange flag marking the final approach on the left.

You should from that point(in front of a white/gray house),have a glimpse of the icefall.

Follow flagged trail for 5 minutes.

Getting There Suggest change

Not the easiest place to get to, seriously, use a GPS.

Parking location:

46.23673,-74.33582

Do not park near the U-turn, the small resident lot or on the road. Use the big parking 150m before the U-turn on the left side. From there walk back to the road or if you have snowshoes, you can use the ski/snowshoe trail, post-holing (boots in ski trails) can endanger our access to this cliff.

From Saint-Donat, take the 329 west and take a right at Chemin du Lac de la Montagne Noire.

Take a right at Chemin de Michaudville.

and a left at Chemin du Lac du Rocher.

From Saint-Agathe take the 329 East.

Turn left onto Chemin de Val-des-Lacs.

Turn right onto Chemin du Lac de l'Orignal.

Turn left onto Chemin Michaudville.

Turn left onto Chemin du Lac du Rocher.
