La Sportiva Boulder X Mid GTX vs La Sportiva Xplorer Mid GTX

How do these two compare in terms of fit and performance? I am looking for a water approach shoe I can use with crampons and also climbs rock well. Is one wider than the other in the fore foot?

ive been really happy with my boulder x mid's. ive got one season of rough everyday guide use out of them and they're still in pretty damn good shape. i've climbed up to 5.6 at seneca with them, and they're stiff enough to handle heavy loads with ease

i wouldnt have a problem putting on a nice strap crampon on them, and trudging up stuff at all, no hesitations whatsoever. they also feel pretty good standing in aiders for extended periods of time as well, though the rubber on the toe box gets worn off pretty quickly, and my one shoe has developed a hole in it.

as far as fit goes, fit them the same as you would your regular boulder x's, i have a size 10 foot and got a 42.5. its very much so a performance climbing fit, if i get another pair i'll probably go with a 43 to wear with a thicker more padded sock. i also have a very wide foot(have a tailors bunion on both of my feet) but the fit is actually really nice and has never given me any issue, they did seem like they stretched a bit, but not enough to be able to fit a thicker sock in them. another thing is they are not exactly the coolest shoe temperature wise, but i came from hiking every day in a patagonia drifter a/c(killed it in a few months) to these

  • i'd just like to say, i havent tried the explorer, but looked at it, and for actual climbing, liked the look of the sole on the boulder x a lot more.
Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
