There are 21 established kletterngebiete (crags) around the Kochelsee area. Most around the southwest end of the lake, near Altjoch.

Getting There

Unfortunately, from Garmisch, you have to go to Tutzing on the train first, making the trip to Kochel 1.5 hrs. but one could get off at Ohlstadt and hitchhike. You can drive there from Garmisch on the in half an hour, take A95 N toward Munich OR from Munich on the A95 toward Garmisch, and get off at Grossweil, and go through Schlehdorf to Kochel.

Climbing Season

For the Germany area.

If you want a guidebook for this area here is a link to the first few pages of this book. This place has mostly hard routes (8 or above) and would not be worth it if your not climbing at least 8.
