Great Boulder, several are found here.

Description

One of the best places in the Sierra I have ever visited.

This is at the south side of the Cobra Turret. About 50 feet from this boulder is a 3,000 foot drop off to the Middle Fork of the Kings river. Please do not disturb the artifacts found nearby. Native Americans made a religious pilgrimage to this location. Modern climbers will be rewarded with a religious experience if you travel to this place. I did.

Oh yea the rock is brilliant.

No Trails go to here, it's all cross country from Grizzly Lake.

Getting There

Start in Kings Canyon, hike up the Lewis Trail to Fry pan meadows. From there go on faint trail to Grizzly Lake. From Grizzly go up and over "Harrington Pass" and descend into "The Gorge of Despair" The "Cobra Turret" is the second tower on your right as you drop into the gorge. The pictured boulders are found up by the southeast end of the Cobra.

The approach is huge, but nothing worthwhile comes without a price.
