The Keene Family YMCA will be hosting it's second annual Climbing Festival on Saturday, December 7th. The day will be filled with activities for climbers of all ages and abilities, and we'll be giving away some super cool prizes thanks to sponsors like The Access Fund, American Alpine Club, Organic Climbing, and North Ridge Mountain Guides. This is a great opportunity to check out the Y's climbing wall and meet other area climbers. Last year's event was a huge success and we are hoping to bring all of that energy and excitement back to the Y for this year's festival - and then some!
New this year will be a film screening of "The Old Breed" a short documentary film about the first ascent of Saser Kangri II, the then second highest unclimbed mountain in the world. One of the climbers and filmmakers is New Hampshire alpinist and all around nice guy Freddie Wilkinson, so we are super psyched to be able to feature it as part of this year's festival. The festival will run from noon until approximately 4pm and is free to members. Non-members are welcome and will be charged the standard YMCA guest fee ($10 for adults, discounted rates for youth and families). First time climbers are encouraged to attend. Food will be available for purchase. For more information, contact Kari Post, Climbing Coordinator at 603-283-5252.
