Description Suggest change

This is the Yosemite Valley of Kyrgyzstan. Huge glacier carved peaks that are often 4500 meters or higher. This is the place where Tommy Caldwell won't go back to (he was kidnapped by Uzbek Islamist rebels in 2000 along with a few other climbers).

Lots of time has passed since that unfortunate event, and things have gotten a lot quieter there now.

NOTE: All grades used within this area are Russian Alpine Grades. These are much different than regular grades as they not only take into account the difficulty and length/number of pitches, but they also take into account the elevation at which you are climbing.

Follow this link for a short description of how routes are graded in the Russian Alpine Style.

Getting There Suggest change

Best to pay a guiding company to get you there. It would be a lot of work to figure it all out yourself. The valley itself is incredibly inaccessible, and very few people live there. It is best to have the experience of a company on your side.

The GPS coordinates are approximate.
