Jazz Rock is a freestanding monolith on the ridgecrest that is also contiguous with Pistol Ridge. The routes are sort of scaterred around the rock.

Getting There

Follow FS Rd. 9b to an overused camping area on the right side of the road, easily identified by a concrete ford blocked by a gate. Drive a little further and park near an old abandoned road heading up the hill to thte left. Follow this trail through a switch back. Continue along the old logging road for quite some time. Eventually the main cliff will break down and there will be a distinct saddle in the ridge. Jazz Rock is the chunk of sandstone on the opposite side of the saddle. GPS for Jazz is 37.8724N, 83.6680W.

A climb named for it's sharp teeth... Your feelings about this climb may well be dependent upon if or not you are taped up, or have thick skin. Save for some sharpness, it is a reasonable line. Probably better as a warm up for those with refined and stable technique than as a grade-pusher (butcher) for the slip and slide crowd....[more]   Browse More Classics in KY
