| Hi all, I'd like to introduce you to my new climbing video site www.crimpvids.com My mission is simple; scour the web for all the latest and greatest climbing videos that are available for free, and bring them together in one easy to use, clean looking site. We aim to cover all aspects of the climbing world ranging from bouldering to alpine expedition. We've only been live since the start of the month but the response to the idea has been really positive so far. Please check out the site and let me know what you think. We are also on Twitter and Facebook; the Twitter feed will be a stream of every uploaded video, and the Facebook page will be updated with the best couple of videos from the day. https://twitter.com/CrimpVids www.facebook.com/CrimpVids I hope you enjoy the site! | Cool site...so I'd be curious though about the legal aspect of it. So I get that the videos are public domain, but to what extent does that entail? For example I would imagine that some of those videos are copyrighted although they've found a way to the internet. I get that it's similar to youtube with all climbing, however I'm still curious. Nice work anyways. | FLAG |

| The site looks really clean and seems to have quite a bit of content. Looking forward to wasting some more time! Two suggestions: 1) Instead of just embedding every video, try to provide credit and/or a link to the original site (or video/dvd/etc) if it's known. 2) It would be cool if there was a way to track which videos you've already seen so that you could filter the lists to see only those that haven't been watched. I'm sure there are a number of ways to do this from simple (cookies or something) to more elaborate (perhaps having individual logins, or maybe that's something that can be done with a FB app? I don't like FB apps usually, but if you want to avoid users then it might be the answer...) Keep it up! | FLAG |

| Thanks for the replies... With regards to the legality of embedding videos, they are always linked form original source which have the share feature enabled (you can easily opt out of that on youtube or vimeo), and I always include the original description complete with any links they wanted to promote. Normally it's in the interest of the uploader as they still get the views on their vid. And thanks for the suggestions, I'll definitely be looking into some kind of user interface whether it be facebook or a specific login, so I'll see what I can do. I do want to keep it as simple as possible though, as simple is best! Thanks again for checking out the site | FLAG |
