Description
Koh Laoliang is an amazing private island in Trang Province, south of Krabi Province. One island, one resort with about 60 pitches of classic Thailand climbing. There is also an amazing bouldering cave and endless DWS!
This place is as secluded as it gets. A great alternative to the crowds of Tonsai and Railay during Madness Season (Dec-March). The climbing is literally a one minute walk from the resort.
The island is full of afternoon climbing as the rock faces east. Many climbers end up spending more time snorkeling, kayaking and simply relaxing as this is a true island paradise experience.
Since there is only one place to stay on the island, you must book with them in advance.
You can book at Basecamp Tonsai on the Phra Nang Peninsula but I recommend booking online at www.laoliangresort.com
You can also call Mike who runs the resort. If you have a group of climbers Mike can probably give you a bit of a discount. His number is +66 (0) 843044077. Tell him Ryan from Phi Phi says hello!
The Classics
Mountain Project's determination of some of the classic, most popular, highest rated routes for Koh Laoliang :
Seemed to us like the best kept secret in Thailand. No crowds (and unpolished holds - at least for now...it's advised you keep the chalking up to a minimum), large variety of first rate routes, great food, amazing kayaking/etc. Do yourself a favor and build some time into the itinerary for Tonsi and make the trip...you'll be glad you did
