Brian Werth, near the finish

Description

Some of the coolest rock around. I think it is volcanic tuff, with a really cool red tint. The routes look nearly impossible from the water, but at least one of them is a go! Need a bit of cleaning at this point, but only minor.

Getting There

1 mile offshore from East Caret bay, about a 5 minute boat ride from Hull Bay. Needs to be reasonably calm so that you can swim in to the rocks. As long as there is not a sizeable west swell, and the wind is anywhere between N and SE, you should be able to get on the rocks. Bring water shoes and dry bags!

This is a toprope setup just lookers right of Sublux. It is the rightmost of the major dihedrals. Starts with an overhung, bouldery press, with relentless dihedral to the top. I have only climbed the bottom 1/3rd, as this route is still a project. 11c is just a guess, it could be harder. Rock quality is similar to sublux, just a little flakier, but will be pristine with a bit of cleaning. ...[more]   Browse More Classics in International

I went out there about 3 days ago with ropes and a big push broom, and spent about 3 hours cleaning off the top of the Dihedral Wall. The danger of rockfall has been significantly reduced.
