Indian Creek and Desert Towers - April 9th onwards

I am coming to Moab on Tuesday and plan to spend a couple weeks there. Probably head to Red Rocks later in the month, but I have a flexible schedule.

I have a car and am planning on being a dirt bag. I don’t have set plans and would like to climb as much as possible.

Looking for partners to join me that share high energy/motivations and like to climb in an efficient and safe manner. I prefer long multi-pitch routes, but am fairly easy going. Sounds like Indian Creek is mostly cragging anyways.

I am comfortable leading low 11's on multi-pitch and can get up mid to hard 11's with some grunting and maybe a fall or two. I am a wee bit stronger on bolts, but prefer gear. I hope to get on some classic low 12's at Indian Creek.

I have a double-rack, a 70m rope and a tag line.

I am looking for motivated partners that can at least follow me.

Anyways, send me a PM if you're interested!

Cheers,
Travis

A good strategy is to first go to Indian Creek. You'll find lots of partners there without even trying. Seriously, it probably is the easiest place in North America to find good competant climbing partners...perhaps even easier than Squamish. In the Creek, everyone wants you to join up with them, so that you can contribute to the cam rack.

From the sound of it, you haven't climbed in the desert much before? If so, a bit of time in the Creek is good anyway to get your desert technique dialed; this can then be applied on the tower routes.

After you've spent a week in the Creek, you'll be dialed in on the Wingate cracks, and you'll have met lots of cool folks. At that point, it will be very easy to ask around among those people that you've met there, and find someone else who wants to go do some tower routes.

This is a tried-and-true strategy, used by many. This approach generally also yields better results than meeting up with sketchball partners over the internet, since this way you get to screen your partners for competance and compatability before going and doing a longer route with them.

Thanks JCM for the information.

Ya.... I was planning on meeting people there as well. I just thought I'd post here as well.... why not?

You are correct that I haven't done much in the desert. I climbed at Zion for a week in March, but that is it. I didn't find adjusting to splitter sandstone cracks that difficult actually. Nevertheless, I plan to spend a lot of time cragging and reading your approach is a good remainder.

Happy climbing!

greetings, fellow climbers. i'm in moab right now, and am jonesing to get on some towers. i've done my fair share of 'em, including ancient Art, castleton, Dark Angel, 3 penguins, washer woman, ... but there are a few that have eluded me and i really want to get on! in particular, standing rock, moses, and monster Tower. i'm down to go to the Creek to do some 'training' runs beforehand. anyways, let me know if you're interested, and have fun in the desert! texting/calling preferable to computer communication. -Dirk five wun oh.3 nein 3.too six 5 wun

April 27 / 28th I'll be at Indian Creek or Moab. I'm available to someone who wants to climb in the 5.7-5.11 range.

prefer multipitch, prefer towers.

I may have to lead some climbs half day in Moab with a group, then can go to Indian Creek after. so 1.5 days in the creek, maybe 2 total.

anyone can message me if interested.

I may have room for one in the car, leaving Friday, return on Sunday to Denver.
